thread has collaborated with Added Value on a number of projects, including a seminal analysis of the impact of urban agriculture in NYC. The Sustainability Center addresses needs raised in a community design charrette, providing year round class rooms, storage, and gathering space. New proposed landscaped public spaces allow for outdoor events, and integrate storm water and play space. After the farm was devastated by Sandy and with future flooding in mind, thread designed an improved layout for the farm. A new raised planting area with ADA ramps is reoriented to optimize the sun while improving the organization of the market area. We are worked with the master composter to site the enlarged community compost facility which processes over 225 tons/year of organic material, created entirely by solar, wind, and human power. photos by fran parente
